Do any preliminary transformations (with SET, DIFFERENCE, etc. or the corresponding wizards)
Do your analysis using the point-and-click wizards, or by typing in the appropriate Estimation Instructions, Hypothesis Testing instructions, and so on (see List of Instructions for a complete listing of categories).
If you want to view scalar or array variables (e.g. user−defined variables or Regression Variables set by estimation instructions), use DIS**Y (for scalars) and WRITE for arrays. Use PRINT to display data series.
You can produce time series graphs and scatter plots with the GRAPH, SCATTER, and related instructions.
If you need to output data to a file, you can use DEDIT and related instructions (for RATS format file only) or OPEN COPY and COPY (for a variety of file formats). You can also do View-Series Window and File-Export... to export series.

Econometrics and Data Management
RATS provides all the basics you expect, including linear and non-linear least squares, forecasting, SUR, and ARIMA models. But it goes far beyond that, with support for techniques like GMM, ARCH and GARCH models, state space models, and more. RATS also offers unmatched support for Vector Autoregression models, and is one of the few programs to offer spectral analysis capabilities.
RATS can handle time series of virtually any frequency, including daily and weekly, as well as panel and cross-section data.
Menu-driven data wizards and support for reading various text, spreadsheet, and database file formats make it easy to get your data into RATS. Our Professional version adds support for more database formats, including SQL/ODBC data access, for even more flexibility.

Links to the executables. Again, there will be two WinRATS Pro applications if you have Pro with a -bit operating system. There will also be a RATSData executable. (Since it isn't used that much, and to help avoid confusion, RATSData isn't included directly on the Start menu).
Possibly a "WinRATS Updater" application (not included with the trial or with network installations), which will check to see if you have the most current build of this version of the software, and if not, will let you download it.
"Manuals" has PDF versions of all of the RATS documentation.
"Examples and Procedures" which includes our standard examples from the manuals, plus the main procedures. This is typically set as the default directory when you try to open a file within RATS.
"Paper Replication Examples" includes subfolders with replications of important published papers.
"Programming Manual" has the Enders-Doan "RATS Programming Manual" with examples.
"Textbook Examples" includes subfolders with worked examples from over 30 textbooks.

The Windows installer gives you options as to where to install the software. We'll describe the standard setup here.
